Harbourside Cleanup
The Toronto Port Authority has a general responsibility for
keeping the harbour clean, free of toxic spills and safe for boats. They
can be contacted throughout the year. The contact information is found at the
Toronto Port Authority website: http://www.torontoport.com/contact_port.asp.
The supervisor is Mike Lamont (mlamont@torontoport.com).
His telephone number is 416-462-1261, extension 16. If he is not
available, or it is outside of office hours, a message can be left at the Hotline
number 416-462-1261.
Harbourfront has a contract with the city of Toronto to keep
the harbour clean during the summer. Their responsibility is for the
entire Toronto waterfront, not just the Harbourfront site. They start May
1 and continue through the summer season. To report an area needing
attention, telephone Harbourfront security 416-973-4885 and leave a
message. Harbourfront is probably the better contact during the summer.
Homeless Persons
To
report homeless persons camping out in our parks, the Parks Ambassador should
be telephoned. The general telephone directory for Parks is located at http://www.toronto.ca/city_directory/pdf/divisions/parks_forestry_recreation.pdf.
Troy Ford is the Parks Ambassador responsible for our area. His
telephone number is 416-392-6770 and his email is tford@toronto.ca.
His mobile number is 416-771-3042. Troy is responsible for parks in our
area including the following problem areas: York Quay Parkette (Sundial), the “Ramp
Parkette” (northeast corner of Queens Quay and York Street) and
underneath the Queens Quay bridge over the Peter Slip lagoon. The Ambassador’s
approach is to first ensure that the homeless have an option of city provided
housing before they are required to move.
Park Cleanup
The
contact names and telephone numbers are in the city Parks directory, noted
previously. Mark Emslie (memslie@toronto.ca, 416-392-1759)
is responsible for Ward 27 and York Quay Parkette. Mark Hawkins (mhawkins@toronto.ca, 416-392-1758) is responsible for Ward 28.
Domenic
Fantauzzi (dfantauz@toronto.ca,
416 – 392-7261) is responsible for the Sundial pump, waterfall and
reflecting pond in York Quay Parkette. Mark Emslie is responsible for
general maintenance in the Parkette.
Art
There is a shared responsibility between Parks and Culture,
when art is in a park.
The directory for Culture is located at http://www.toronto.ca/city_directory/pdf/divisions/economic_development_culture_tourism.pdf.
Sandra Lougheed (416-392-4218) can be contacted to report vandalism
(to, for example, the Sundial) after the fact and she will contact the
graffiti removal contractor. As Toronto Parks and Culture have no policing
capacity, they have asked us to
call the police if we witness vandalism in progress.
The
more people that phone and write, the cleaner the harbour and our parks will
be. These service providers need the watchful eyes of residents.
Residents that contact the city should copy info@YQNA.ca
so that performance can be monitored.
